General questions

How do I know if I am a candidate for a procedure at Laser Spine Institute?
Our initial process to determine if you may be a candidate can be completed over the phone with one of our Spine Care Consultants, or live at an initial consultation with one of our physicians. We determine if you are a potential candidate based off of a review of your MRI or CT scan. You will then be partnered with our Care Management Team to complete a medical assessment and schedule your visit with us.

How long do I have to stay in town for surgery?
Our streamlined patient experience varies by case, but typically lasts five days with surgery scheduled for the third day. Your Spine Care Consultant can help you learn more about what your patient experience may look like.

Do I have to stay at the facility overnight?
Because we are an outpatient ambulatory surgery center, our patients stay at local hotels for the duration of their visit with us. Our procedures require no hospital or overnight stay at our facility.^

How long will I be out of work after a surgery with Laser Spine Institute?
More than 81 percent of our patients report being back to work within three months of a minimally invasive decompression procedure with us at Laser Spine Institute. However, the majority of our patients are back to their daily activities within days and are given simple lifting and activity-based restrictions during the immediate recovery time.^

Do I have to have someone with me for surgery?
We require that all patients be accompanied by an able-bodied person of at least 18 years of age for the 24 hours following surgery.

Can I choose my own surgeon?
We are open to taking recommendations for surgeons, however the final determination will be based upon expertise and availability at each facility.

What should I do while I am in Philadelphia?
Philadelphia has much to offer patients during their stay. We have compiled a comprehensive list of recommended attractions and dining in our ““What’s nearby”:/about/about_the_facility/” section for your convenience.

Medical questions

Why is minimally invasive surgery more advantageous than traditional surgery?
Our minimally invasive procedures offer a number of advantages compared to traditional surgery. From our low infection and complication rates to our 96 patient satisfaction score,^ choosing to undergo minimally invasive surgery will have most patients back to their daily activities much faster than traditional surgery.

What anesthesia is used at Laser Spine Institute?
Our procedures typically require numbing medicine, or local anesthesia, and intravenous sedation. Our expert anesthesiologists and medical staff carefully monitor every patient before, during and after surgery.

If I have already had a failed neck or back surgery, can Laser Spine Institute help me?
At Laser Spine Institute we have been able to help more than 75,000 patients get back to their favorite activities. Many of those patients had failed back surgery before they came to us. In order to see if you may be a candidate for one of our procedures, contact Laser Spine Institute today.

Insurance questions

Does Laser Spine Institute take my insurance?
At Laser Spine Institute we work with a number of different insurance companies and policies. Each policy reimburses differently for our procedures. In order to have your insurance reviewed by our team, contact Laser Spine Institute today.

Why doesn’t Medicare cover the facility at Laser Spine Institute?
At Laser Spine Institute, we work with Medicare to cover the surgeons’ fees for your surgery. However, the amount Medicare offers to reimburse for our facility is not enough to cover the operating cost of our state-of-the-art technologies and equipment. For that reason, we have to decline reimbursement for our facility fee from Medicare.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, contact Laser Spine Institute to speak with a member of our dedicated team for more information. We are pleased to offer a no-cost MRI or CT scan review* to help you find out if you may be a candidate for one of our procedures.
